Small Commercial Underwriter

About the role

The Small Commercial Underwriter will join a dedicated underwriting team, working closely with agency partners to provide professional service and achieve optimal outcomes for policyholders and agency profitability.

Responsibilities

• Individually risk Underwrite new small commercial accounts, targeting up to $25,000 in premium, or as assigned by the Regional Supervisor or Manager.
• Cultivate solid relationships with Agency partners through in-person meetings and virtual meetings.
• Work with the underwriting assistant to ensure adherence to corporate underwriting policies and service standards.
• Review accounts beyond individual authority with the Regional Underwriting Manager or Supervisor and recommend a course of action.
• Achieve commercial lines regional production goals and loss ratio objectives for assigned territory.

Qualifications & Skills

• College degree or equivalent work experience.
• 1-3 years in the insurance business as a property casualty commercial lines underwriter with individual risk underwriting responsibilities.
• Strong background in underwriting commercial lines accounts and building agency relationships.
• Property and Casualty insurance related coursework is a plus, such as CPCU.
• Previous Agency relationships within the local insurance industry are highly desirable.
• Microsoft Office knowledge and ability to work with internal company systems (WINS, ImageRight etc.)
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Pay

Mercant Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The estimated salary for this role ranges from $65,000 - $90,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule

This role requires a hybrid work schedule, with 2 full days per week in the office and the option to work the remaining days remotely or in the office.
