Small Business Specialist

The Metropolitan Council is seeking a Small Business Specialist (Equal Opportunity Consultant I) to support and assist in the promotion and administration of the Council's small business programs. This position is eligible for hybrid teleworking.

About the role

• Drive equity and advance civil rights in alignment with Council strategy, operations, and investments through engagement for inclusive and accessible programs, activities, and services.
• Support the promotion and administration of the Council's small business programs.
• Provide support and assistance in the promotion and administration of the Council's small business programs.

Responsibilities

• Engage with small businesses to promote and administer Council programs.
• Assist in the development and implementation of outreach strategies.
• Conduct research and analysis to inform program development and improvement.
• Support investigations and compliance efforts related to small business programs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

Requirements

• Any combination of completed education (in business administration, public administration/public policy, human resources or related field) and experience (in affirmative action/equal opportunity, compliance, outreach/public engagement, customer service, investigations, or leadership activities related to diversity and/or equal opportunity programs).
• Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.
• Associate degree and two to four (2-4) years of experience.
• High School Diploma/GED and four to six (4-6) years of experience.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws related to small business and equal opportunity.
