Adjunct (part-time/substitute) instructor positions for Small Business Development (Entrepreneurship) courses. Applications are accepted continuously for the adjunct pool; openings are filled as needed for fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes.

About the Role

Part-time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Assignments are as-needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes, which may include a combination of lecture and lab classes as determined by the department.
  • Be available to students outside of class.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Provide quality instruction and create an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning, encouraging free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
  • Submission of official transcripts prior to employment.
  • Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewed every 4 years).
  • Fingerprint clearance via Live Scan at the district's expense prior to first day of employment.
  • Original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of professional experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
  • An Associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
  • The equivalent.

If you do not possess the exact degrees listed or anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching classes, complete a "Request for Equivalency Form" during the application process.

Applicants with foreign degrees must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with the online application.

Licenses

  • Full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in Small Business (if possessed).

Pay

Salary placement is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts and verifications of previous work experience. Initial placement is at the first class/step on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules until all required documentation is submitted. Instructors with advanced coursework and/or experience may be placed on a higher class and step. View the current salary schedule.
