Job Summary
Salt Lake Technical College (SLTech) seeks a student-centered educator to teach in Professional Truck Driving.
About the Role
Full-time faculty teach assigned classes following SLCC policies while maintaining substantial on-campus presence.
Responsibilities
- Provide student-centered instruction and assessment.
- Support continuous quality improvement.
- Comply with college policies, FERPA, and Academic Freedom policies.
- Maintain professional communication and safe learning environments.
- Maintain on-campus presence and collaborate with colleagues.
- Address student issues per Code of Student Rights.
- Engage in governance, curriculum development, and program assessment.
- Establish and maintain hands-on instructional resources aligned with industry.
- Support students in completion, licensure, and job placement.
- Compare program metrics with USHE institutions.
- Assist administration with data collection.
- Promote SLTech/SLCC mission and goals.
- Train students in basic driver qualifications in commercial vehicles which requires a CDL license.
- Administer 3rd party CDL tests.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on all tractors and trailers, ensuring each unit is kept clean and in proper working order.
Knowledge & Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Mechanical experience.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Current Class A CDL license, DOT physical, and safe DMV record required.
- At least 3 years of consecutive safe driving experience in a combination CMV.
- No accidents or citations within the past 3 years.
- No DUI’s within the past 20 years.
- Must be willing to become a third-party examiner at the college’s expense at the first available opportunity.

Compensation Information
12-month appointment paid annually. Salary placement determined on credentials, industry experience, teaching effectiveness, and internal equity.

OPEN UNTIL FILLED. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Must reside in Utah and provide address within 30 days. Must maintain on-site campus presence. Must maintain professional boundaries with students. Teaching demonstration and recommendation letters required. The passing of a Background Check and of a drug screening as required by the Department of Transportation.
