About the role
The successful candidate will provide systems engineering support to the Space Launch System (SLS) Solid Rocket Booster Kennedy Space Center (KSC) resident management office.
- Booster avionics, pyrotechnic and thrust vector control systems hardware insight and oversight
- Assembly and checkout test support for Booster aft and forward assemblies
- Acceptance test support for hydraulic pumps
- Pre-installation test support for pyrotechnic hardware
- Launch countdown support
- Perform system analyses
- Support test system hardware/software troubleshooting
- Design solutions
- Support reviews, working groups and boards
- Provide periodic status inputs to project and management
Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in SLS Booster fabrication, component acceptance testing, pre-transfer test and checkout operations
- Participate in anomaly investigations
- Provide leadership and mentor less experienced personnel during development, integration, deployment and operation life cycles
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Education: a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering
- Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum of 14 years of experience, master’s degree with at least 18 years of experience, or bachelor's with at least 20 years of experience
- Candidate must have knowledge of space systems avionics, pyrotechnic and thrust vector control systems, ground and production support equipment, data acquisition systems, verification and validation processes, design, trade studies, milestone reviews, interface definition, change management, risk management, and safety
- Knowledge of Dewesoft and NX (or equivalent) is desired but not required
Qualifications
- Must have knowledge of space systems avionics, pyrotechnic and thrust vector control systems, ground and production support equipment, data acquisition systems, verification and validation processes, design, trade studies, milestone reviews, interface definition, change management, risk management, and safety
- Good coordination and communication skills
- Pro-active, multitask and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with booster subsystems
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues
- Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks
- Ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities

- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
