Logistics
Pay: $135.00+ per hour. Contract Type: 1 year. Location: Remote/Virtual (onboarded at Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center).
Schedule
Monday – Friday: 6:00 am to 6:00 pm (occasional weekends).
Requirements
- Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
- Graduate of an accredited medical school with an MD or DO degree.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California state licenses preferred.
- Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Manages comprehensive sleep disorders and manages related medical conditions causing or contributing to the sleep disorder(s).
- Performs direct patient care as requested by VHA; the specific division of synchronous care (clinics) and asynchronous care (sleep study interpretation, electronic consultations, and remote therapeutic monitoring) depends on whether a provider is full-time or part-time.
- Completes new patient visits within 60 minutes and follow-up visits within 30 minutes.
- Completes all mandatory setting-specific suicide screening for new patients in accordance with national guidance.
- Completes sleepiness and insomnia questionnaires where hypersomnia and insomnia are relevant to the patient visit.
- Evaluates patients (including physical examinations as necessary), orders appropriate testing, and facilitates order completion.
- Monitors status and completion of test results, reviews results, and discusses management plans with patients across a broad range of indications.
- Documents all patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR); providers type their own notes; EHR entries are completed within the timeframe mandated by the patient's VA facility, typically within 24 hours of the clinical encounter.
- Communicates appropriately with Veteran's providers regarding sleep testing, follow-up, and management to ensure coordination of care.
- Functions efficiently and respectfully within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.
- Appropriately documents and communicates all ordered test results to patients and providers within a timeframe consistent with VHA policy (within 14 days of availability of results or sooner if clinically indicated).
- Tracks completion of tests ordered and responds to inquiries and requests from schedulers as needed (e.g., for modifications to orders).
- Maintains board certification, meets CME requirements, and practices within scope of privileges.
