Who You’ll Work With
We are seeking a seasoned meteorologist to serve as a leader within a local utility’s meteorology team. This full-time, in-person role is central to enhancing weather intelligence and integrating meteorological insights into operations, emergency planning and response, engineering, and capital investment decisions. The Principal Meteorologist will lead forecasting efforts, guide tool and process development, partner with key internal stakeholders, and serve as the primary liaison with external agencies to advance fire weather science.

- Deliver short-, medium-, and long-range forecasts, including daily and seasonal outlooks, with special emphasis on fire weather conditions such as Santa Ana winds, heat waves, and winter storms. Additionally, prepare non-routine weather reports to support critical weather events, Department Emergency Operations Center activations, and major construction activities.
- Continually maintain and enhance procedures for monitoring LADWP’s weather network and associated alerting.
- Continuously improve forecasting accuracy and efficiency through the adoption of new technologies and process enhancements.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate weather data into operational procedures, wildfire mitigation strategies, and community resilience planning.
- Act as the primary liaison with the National Weather Service, Cal Fire, universities, and other research institutions to advance meteorological science and technology.
