About the Role

The Skills Trainer will provide support, skill training, and one-on-one supervision to clients admitted to the Subacute Crisis residential facility. This role involves maintaining case records, coordinating facility operations, and collaborating with other staff to meet client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, supervision, activities, and skills training individually and/or in group settings as outlined in the treatment plan, including coping skills, self-care, social interaction, illness management, crisis management, daily living activities, and transitional support.
  • Assist in preparing materials for day treatment processes, such as preparing copies, packets, and group rooms, and maintaining a clean workspace.
  • Clean program facilities as needed or assigned.
  • Monitor client medications following medical policies and procedures.
  • Conduct basic risk assessments and refer clients to program coordinators, primary clinicians, or on-call staff for expanded intervention.
  • Ensure clients' life and medical safety, behavioral control, and crisis prevention within the scope of practice; contact supervisors or emergency services as needed.
  • Coordinate daily facility operations, including monitoring, walkthroughs, and room searches.
  • Transport clients to appointments and services as authorized by the treatment plan.
  • Administer drug and alcohol screens/tests as needed and authorized by clinical staff.
  • Participate as a member of the client's care team.
  • Utilize assessments such as DLA-20, PHQ-9, GAD-7, MIS, LOCUS, SOWS, or CIWA.
  • Maintain case records and documentation per agency policies.
  • Comply with all Volunteers of America Northern Rockies' policies and procedures.
  • Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and required training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain the following certifications within the first 30 days of employment:
    • CPR / First Aid
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • MANDT

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental illness and/or substance use problems.
  • Experience working with people actively in crisis.
  • Experience in a residential service environment.
  • Peer Support Specialist certification.

Skills

  • Crisis management.
  • Ability to work with multiple staff, clients, and agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software: Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Practical oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated alignment with servant leadership and cultural values of communication, compassion, integrity, respect, and excellence.

Work Environment

  • Operates in a residential facility environment.
  • Routine use of standard office equipment such as laptops, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Involves lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Travel

Some travel is required for this position.
