Essential Duties

  • To empower people with developmental disabilities and their families to speak out for themselves and others, initiate ideas, have choices and make decisions about needed services.
  • To provide support services to families in a way that recognizes and respects their ethnic and cultural diversity.
  • To protect and enhance the rights of participants.
  • To promote the perception of individuals as capable, valued and accepted members of the community through the promotion of physical and social integration.
  • To attend training as prescribed by Director (varies according to experience and background).
  • To report suspicions of neglect or abuse to program management staff and Department of Children and Families or Disabled Persons Protection Commission.
  • To be knowledgeable about what to do in an emergency and to file incident reports when needed.

Skills Instruction

  • To teach and foster acquisition, retention or improvement of skills including but not limited to: health and nutrition, shopping, personal finance, use of community resources, community and personal safety skills and other adaptive and social skills to live in the community.
  • To implement goals as outlined in Plan of Care/Family Support Plan/Behavioral Support Plan.
  • To deliver service delivery in a personal home, one’s own home, in a family home or in the community.
  • To provide written progress notes as needed or requested by Family Support Staff.
  • To implement behavioral strategies and protocols.
  • To assist with personal care as needed.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Direct experience working with individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to pass Fingerprint background check, CORI, DPPC and Driving background checks.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Personable vehicle required for this role.
  • To obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications. If working with children and/or infants, will need to be certified in child and infant CPR and First Aid.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Range

$20 - $30 per hour
