About the Role
The housekeeper and laundry aide performs day-to-day housekeeping and laundry tasks to ensure the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner, with an adequate supply of linen available at all times to meet residents' needs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored at all times, including before breaks, mealtimes, and end of the workday.
- Perform cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection prevention and control procedures.
- Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, break rooms, and other work areas to comply with state/federal regulations and facility policies.
- Clean and disinfect equipment and supplies using germicides or sterilization procedures as directed.
- Monitor the environment for potential hazards during routine housekeeping tasks.
- Prioritize housekeeping requests involving safety issues or time-sensitive projects, such as pre-arrival room checks for new admissions or spilled beverages.
- Clean vacant rooms as assigned and document cleaning and sanitation services per facility policies.
- Ensure proper disposal of infectious waste into appropriate containers as required by regulations and the facility’s infection prevention plan.
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liners; service routinely to prevent overflow.
- Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
- Label or mark personal articles of clothing (e.g., blankets, sweaters) for laundry with identifying information such as name, barcode, or reference number.
- Coordinate daily laundry service with nursing services when working in resident living areas.
- Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry, linen, and garments, placing them in appropriate containers or assigned areas while maintaining sanitary conditions and separation between clean and dirty items.
- During emergencies, distribute clean laundry, linen, and garments to designated areas as instructed.
- Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, and garments to residents daily or as instructed.
- Assist in searching for missing articles of clothing or personal items of residents and report findings.
- Ensure an adequate supply of laundry and linen supplies is maintained in closets to meet daily resident needs; replace worn items according to facility policies.
Requirements
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Experience in the Long Term Care or Assisted Living industry is preferred.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and transport such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
