About the Role
Employee is responsible for the maintenance, construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs throughout all City-owned facilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintains grounds and buildings at city-owned properties and facilities.
- Performs plumbing, electrical (preferably a journeyman, but not required), and basic roof repairs.
- Moves building contents from one building to another.
- Constructs, maintains, and installs floors, doors, light fixtures, and other areas.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- May be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience.
- Must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
- Current valid Class "C" Driver's License; Class "B" preferred.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within the first three months of hire.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret instructions regarding the safe and efficient use of equipment.
- Attention to detail.
- Effective motor skills to operate department vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery safely.
- Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions and take appropriate safety precautions.
Working Conditions
- Constantly performs work outdoors on a variety of City projects.
- Exposed to equipment/machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, oil, dirt, and/or grease.
- Works under extreme weather conditions, excessive heat, and/or excessive cold for long periods.
- Standing/walking most of the work period, moving about construction sites over rough terrain.
