About the role

The role involves utilizing various skills to assemble and maintain complex test lab fixtures and equipment, assist with test executions, and ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize various skills to assemble and maintain complex test lab fixtures and equipment.
  • Assemble, inspect, and repair complex test articles and specimens.
  • Aid in test executions.
  • Comply with safety rules and procedures, use protective equipment, and be alert for unsafe conditions.
  • Show understanding of the experimental test process and internal lab SOPs and WMs.
  • Communicate as required to receive and understand work assignments, sometimes coordinating directly with test engineering.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide status updates to their direct supervisor regarding progress or help needed on assigned projects.
  • Ensure that all work accomplished meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Follow standard operating procedures when operating company and lab equipment.
  • Apply 6S and Lean Initiatives to keep shops, hangars, and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered.
  • Implement and apply Lean/continuous improvement processes to all areas of responsibility.
  • Properly use and maintain Company-provided tools and equipment, returning items to designated storage area after use.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation and shop mathematics.
  • Experience with basic hand tools.
  • Experience with CAD packages and planning systems.

  • Intermediate experience (2-5 years) of one, or a combination of any, of the following:
  • Sheetmetal experience
  • Cutting, bending, forming, drilling
  • Aircraft inspection, maintenance, and repair
  • Machining
  • Plan, layout, setup, and operation machinery
  • Welding
  • Familiar with metallurgy, metal working, and welding processes/technology
  • Intermediate understanding of computer software
  • Basic understanding of Solumina
  • Basic understanding of Catia/Smart Team
  • Test lab experience
  • Experience with calibration tools, gages, meters, instruments, and/or transducers.
  • Machinist II Skills
  • Sheetmetal Welder Skills

Desired Skills

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for the DOD SkillBridge Program and remain eligible throughout the program.
  • To be considered, candidates must be eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Program and meet all job-specific education and experience requirements. Preference will be given to those able to participate for at least 90 days, with a maximum of 180 days.
  • Under close supervision, perform planning, layout, setup, and operation of various conventional machinery. Assist and train junior level machinist.
  • Must be familiar with the guidelines set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Welding Society (AWS), and other pertinent process specifications.
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, metal working procedures, and welding processes and technology with regard to aircraft applications.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
