About the role
Alyeska Resort is seeking experienced Ski Patrol – Level 3 professionals to lead a team in Girdwood, Alaska. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring guest safety while executing critical mountain operations and mentoring fellow patrollers.
Responsibilities
- Enforce safe skiing practices according to State of Alaska and Alyeska Resort policies.
- Patrol assigned areas daily to identify and mitigate hazards on ski slopes and trails.
- Assist in search and rescue operations, including lost skiers, chair lift evacuations, and avalanche search and rescue.
- Render first aid to injured skiers and provide safe transport off the mountain; notify medical personnel for severe injuries.
- Ensure no skiers remain on slopes or trails at the end of the day or during inclement weather.
- Maintain towers, posts, snowmaking hydrants, patrol stations, and storage areas.
- Inspect ski lifts, rope tows, and chair lifts to report safety hazards or damage.
- Assist with mountain sweeping at the close of the season.
- Handle explosives for avalanche control under supervision.
- Participate in speed control, safety enforcement, and transceiver location.
- Perform special patrol jobs, Dispatch, and Aid Room duties.
- Serve as Route Leader for avalanche mitigation and operate artillery pieces.
- Resolve guest complaints according to policy.
- Teach other patrollers about all aspects of patrolling.
- Lead coordinated lift evacuations and act as Rescue Leader in avalanche situations.
- Serve as Accident Investigation Leader.
- Exhibit demonstrable leadership skills and perform closing duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Meets all qualifications and competency requirements of Ski Patrol Levels I and II.
- Current Outdoor Emergency Care certification or Alaska EMT-1 certification (or higher).
- Current CPR Basic Life Support certification appropriate for medical certification.
- Avalanche Professional Level 1 (Pro 1) Certification.
- Minimum of five seasons of ski patrol experience, including at least one season with Alyeska Ski Patrol.
- Current certificate of completion for ICS-200 or higher.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Alyeska’s terrain, operations, lift/tram systems, patrol facilities, rescue systems, emergency access routes, and departmental plans.
- Senior-level competency in closing operations, Dispatch, Aid Room operations, work-run quality control, incident documentation, guest service, and interdepartmental communication.
- Completion of all required Patroller III medical, lift evacuation, rope rescue, incident investigation, vehicle, and Snow Safety qualifications.
- Completion of at least three approved Patroller III elective qualifications from the advancement checklist.
- Ability to instruct, mentor, and evaluate other patrollers in trained disciplines.
- Ability to lead designated operations within established Ski Patrol, Snow Safety, and resort chain of command.
- Completion of a long-term patrol project with demonstrated planning, communication, implementation, and follow-through.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Advancement requires successful completion of all Patroller III Checklist sign-offs and approval through performance review, peer review, and management review.
Physical Demands
- Strong skiing and toboggan handling skills.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum load of 75 pounds while skiing.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to assist with patient handling, assessment, and transportation over steep, variable, and ice or snow-covered terrain.

Pay
Starting wage: $27 per hour.
