About the role
The Skate Guard position ensures and maintains a safe and enjoyable skating environment. This includes preventing accidents, enforcing policies and procedures, educating the public on safe skating practices, and assisting in the maintenance and care of equipment and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Prevent accidents by eliminating hazards or hazardous behaviors.
- Enforce all rules involving policy and operating procedures.
- Educate the skating public on safe recreation habits and encourage their cooperation and support with good public relations.
- Maintain a level of skating ability appropriate to the demands of skate guarding to fulfill any emergency procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance and care of equipment, facilities, and environment, ensuring a safe and sanitary condition.
- Pick up trash throughout the facility, clean restrooms, mop and sweep hockey boxes, locker rooms, and bleachers, wipe tables down in the lobby area when needed, keep the skate rental room clean, check and empty trash receptacles as needed, vacuum the lobby and meeting rooms as directed, assist in storing tables, chairs, and AV equipment when not in use.
- Attend and participate in all required clinics, workshops, and meetings.
- Inform the Supervisor of any disciplinary problems.
- Maintain rental skates in good working condition (replaces laces and insoles).
- Instruct the public in proper fit of skates and assist customers with lacing skates.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Personable character and neat appearance.
- Must possess or obtain an American Red Cross standard first aid certificate and a certificate in CPR within the first four weeks of employment.
Qualifications
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Physical demands include ice skating, standing and walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, jumping, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing.
- Must be able to meet the requirements to obtain First Aid/CPR Training and knowledge of emergency procedures.
