About the role

We are seeking a SIU Investigator II to join our dynamic team at Root. This role plays a crucial part in our mission to combat insurance fraud and ensure fair claims processing.

Responsibilities

  • Complete investigations of claims suspected of fraud, including complex cases involving multiple claims, providers, and organized fraudulent activities
  • Investigate claims with indicators of potential misrepresentation, examining documents, files, interviewing witnesses, coordinating forensic work with vendors, and conducting Examinations Under Oath
  • Occasionally testify in court proceedings in person or remotely, and complete sworn affidavits
  • Act as a liaison for the Claims Staff in fraud training, awareness, and investigation
  • Proactively review files to identify potentially questionable claims
  • Engage in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions, guidelines, and policy changes
  • Provide technical claims recommendations to improve case outcomes
  • Recommend potential product developments and process improvements
  • Work with leadership to develop and maintain state fraud compliance plans
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced investigators

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years experience handling investigations related to insurance/self-insured fraud, with a focus on automobile injury and property damage claims
  • Prioritization of Fraud Claim Law Specialist certification, Certified Fraud Examiner designation, CPCU designation, or other relevant fraud investigation certifications
  • Strong understanding and application of laws, statutes, and regulations specific to fraud handling
  • Experience conducting Examinations Under Oath without significant direction or assistance
  • Understanding of telematics location data and interpretation of forensic reports related to vehicle onboard systems such as Event Data Recorders
  • A high sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
