We are looking for a Site Safety Specialist to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Lubbock, TX. BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division connects innovation, customers, partners and agricultural experts and integrates sustainability criteria into all business decisions to help farmers deliver the best possible outcomes.

About the role

As a Site Safety Specialist, you will develop, implement, coordinate, and manage safety programs to ensure compliance, promote safe work practices, and drive continuous improvement across the Lubbock, Littlefield, and Lubbock QA lab sites. You will serve as the primary contact for all safety activities at the assigned sites, manage safety projects as directed by the Site and Plant Managers or the Safety and Process Manager, and ensure implementation of all EHS requirements.

  • Provide technical and regulatory EHS expertise in partnership with the EHS Team Leader to ensure compliance, safe workplaces, and continuous improvement of site EHS programs
  • Identify, lead, and deliver required safety training for employees at each site in accordance with BASF EHS policies and federal, state, and local requirements
  • Prepare for audits (Responsible Care, PHA, PSM) by coordinating with site management, corporate EHS, and other stakeholders
  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate site-specific drills for crisis and emergency response scenarios
  • Foster continuous improvement of EHS programs and strengthen the site safety culture through leadership and engagement
  • Implement corporate standardized EHS policies and procedures (e.g., Safe Work Permits, Job Safety Analysis, Management of Change, incident/accident investigations, ergonomics, HAZCOM)
  • Participate in capital project reviews to assess environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety impacts and requirements
  • Track commitments from PHAs, MOCs, permit applications, and other actions to completion
  • Meet BASF program standards in environmental, safety, and process safety areas
  • Travel to the Littlefield site as needed to support safety activities and site compliance
  • Support daily, weekly, and monthly EHS activities for the Lubbock, Littlefield, and Erskine labs
  • Travel up to 10-15%, domestically

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, required. Studies in a safety-related field, preferred
  • Professional certification such as CSP or CIH preferred, or to be completed within 18 months of hire
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably from a manufacturing setting, with strong occupational safety credentials
  • PSM/RMP knowledge and demonstrated applicability in a manufacturing environment, required
  • Strong environmental and safety background with regulatory and technical EHS expertise (OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS)
  • Experience in hazard recognition, hazard identification risk assessments, and conducting root cause analyses (RCA)
  • Practical familiarity with Process Hazard Analysis steps and contractor safety management, preferred
  • Experience with Responsible Care standards, preferred
  • Competency using EHS software, reporting databases, and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading cross-functional EHS initiatives
  • Ability to drive change, influence site manufacturing and business leadership, and interact with municipal, state, and federal regulators
  • Demonstrated practical implementation of safety programs and procedures (e.g., Safe Work, Confined Space, Hot Work, Lock-Tag-Try, Line Breaking)
