About the Role
The Site Radiation Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe handling, use, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation-emitting devices within oil and gas extraction and mining operations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining radiation safety programs that comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The officer will conduct regular site inspections, monitor radiation levels, and provide training and guidance to personnel to minimize radiation exposure risks. They serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders regarding radiation safety matters. Ultimately, this role ensures a safe working environment that protects employees, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards while supporting operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation safety programs tailored to site-specific operations.
- Conduct routine radiation surveys and inspections to monitor radiation levels and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide training and education to site personnel on radiation safety protocols, emergency procedures, and proper use of protective equipment.
- Investigate and report any radiation incidents or exposures, coordinating corrective actions and regulatory notifications as required.
- Maintain accurate records of radiation sources, personnel exposure, training, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with management and regulatory bodies to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant radiation safety regulations and standards.
- Advise on the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation-emitting devices.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to radiation safety.
