About the role

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) powers Microsoft’s core cloud platforms and services used by millions daily. With over 95% of Fortune 500 businesses on Azure and 180+ million using Office 365, CO+I builds and operates the foundation for Microsoft’s mission. The Global Supply Chain team within CO+I establishes the supply chain to meet growing Microsoft Cloud demands, supporting complex, multi-billion-dollar datacenter construction and operations.

This role will be located on-site at one of the following Data Center Campuses: Elkhart, IN; Columbus, OH; San Antonio, TX; Dulles, VA; Phoenix, AZ; San Jose, CA; Quincy, or Wenatchee, WA. Relocation support is provided, and candidates must reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, maintains, and executes material management for several construction projects, performing purchasing responsibilities to ensure continuity of supply and/or services.
  • Integrates business specifications into request for information (RFI) and/or request for proposal (RFP) processes, manages supplier evaluation frameworks, and partners with suppliers to drive innovation and execution improvement.
  • Supports contract and price negotiation activities, ensuring alignment with cross-functional teams.
  • Applies end-to-end understanding of procurement processes to drive business impact and leads decision-making around workstream processes.
  • Ensures adherence to policy and collaborates with senior stakeholders to drive consistency across supply chain requests.
  • Manages procurement execution while ensuring procedural compliance and monitors the impact of complex change orders.
  • Drives supplier and contractor performance management, develops negotiation strategies, and facilitates early business engagements with cross-functional leadership.
  • Manages supplier activity and external stakeholders to improve supplier performance.

Compliance

  • Ensures adherence to policy, educates stakeholders and suppliers on policy compliance, and contributes to remediation and resolution of sourcing issues with minimal guidance.
  • Ensures consistency, timeliness, quality, and accuracy of deliverables in alignment with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and/or defined milestones.
  • Communicates potential delays to stakeholders and executes contingency measures as directed.
  • Demonstrates understanding of tradeoffs between Microsoft and key suppliers, driving business impact through market intelligence and execution plans.
  • Manages aspects of the supplier scorecard process and strategic business reviews, addressing issues with minimal guidance.
  • Facilitates periodic Microsoft-driven supplier audits against policy/contractual requirements and ensures the governance model maintains up-to-date sourcing and supplier data.

Procurement and Contracts

  • Routes contracts and change orders via workflow processes or technology to support product and service requirements.
  • Executes contracts and complies with established control processes within an assigned purchasing category.
  • Identifies risks and roadblocks to contract execution, monitors the impact of change orders, and escalates resolution cross-functionally, including to Legal and Corporate Affairs or senior sourcing personnel.
  • Ensures suppliers perform work in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Processes or supports stakeholder procurement requests for purchasing categories via engagement and/or workflow technology.
  • Routes original purchase orders and subsequent change orders via workflow processes or technology.
  • Escalates pricing issues to senior sourcing personnel and audits supplier work in accordance with purchase order requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Supports business engagements for low-risk and/or well-defined business areas or purchasing categories with cross-functional leadership, including product design, quality, and business teams.
  • Advises on supply solutions and strategies, business requirements, and priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Collaborates with suppliers and internal Microsoft compliance stakeholders, performing active care to assist them through onboarding.
  • Serves as a contact point between suppliers and Microsoft for a set of well-defined accounts within the same purchasing category.
  • Develops pricing and negotiation strategies for well-defined purchasing categories, ensuring clear articulation cross-functionally and gaining executive support internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance, or related field.
    • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience (including internships) in data science/analytics, finance, project management, supply chain, and/or operations.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud background checks every two years.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in an active construction environment.
    • Willingness to travel between local sites (not a single assigned office at one location).
    • Certified Purchasing Manager Certification.

Pay

Sourcing and Category Management IC4: The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 - $188,400 per year. For specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $125,000 - $206,400 per year.

Sourcing and Category Management IC5: The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $116,900 - $203,600 per year. For specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $148,400 - $222,600 per year.
