Site Medical Director NICU
Position Summary
The Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides medical professional leadership for a 25-bed Level III NICU and serves as a medical advisor to normal nursery services at all campuses. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based neonatal care.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all neonatology care, ensure evidence-based practices, drive quality improvement, maintain clinical protocols, track performance metrics, and promote patient safety.
Lead neonatology staffing strategy, recruitment, and program growth; identify expansion opportunities; and collaborate with internal and external partners to improve care coordination.
Partner on unit operations, staffing, budgeting, and resource planning; ensure regulatory compliance; and participate in hospital leadership activities.
Lead and support neonatology physicians and APPs through mentorship, evaluation, scheduling, recruitment, and fostering a collaborative team culture.
Support clinical education, promote continuous learning, and liaise with academic partners as applicable.
Champion family-centered care and ensure clear, effective communication with families.
Position Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in a Level III or higher NICU. Prior leadership experience, experience in a hospital-employed model, and formal leadership training is preferred.
Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school is required.
Certification/Licensure: Board Certified/Eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by the Oregon State Board of Medical Examiners (OSBME); Basic Life Support (BLS) certified from American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon start.
Medical Staff Membership and Privileges: Must obtain and maintain medical staff membership and appropriate privileges, which includes but is not limited to, holding position-specific certifications/memberships as determined by Asante Medical Staff team.
Professional Eligibility: Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
