Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of all aspects of the field activities from start-up to completion on projects, including but not limited to project safety, quality, schedule, planning, jobsite logistics, leading the on-site management team, subcontractor coordination, and risk assessment.
  • Maintain and track the overall project schedule as well as create and maintain a task-specific two-to-three-week lookahead. Use the schedule as a management tool to deliver the project on time and provide real-time data to the Project Manager/Scheduler for schedule maintenance.
  • Ensure site safety requirements are met at all times, including both personnel and jobsite standards. Assist on-site safety personnel, safely stop work when infractions are found, and counsel subcontractors and team members when violations occur.
  • Train project team members on Gray software such as CMO, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Concur, E-Time, and GoGray.
  • Conduct site and weekly meetings to coordinate subcontractor activities so that all teams work cooperatively throughout the project and align with the project schedule.
  • Conduct monthly project reports to track overall project progression concerning safety, schedule, subcontractor performance, quality, budget, and customer relations.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management (PM) team to ensure timely buyout of subcontracts and manage the procurement schedule to meet the project schedule.
  • Lead, teach, coach, and train subordinates to maintain professional contractual relationships with all parties involved in the project. Demonstrate through words, actions, and leadership how to be firm but fair and professional in those relationships.
  • Establish and manage a jobsite safety culture in accordance with Gray’s safety program. Lead by example and hold the site team accountable for adhering to Gray policies and procedures while assisting them in achieving their goals.
  • Actively facilitate the growth of team members through mentoring.
  • Set up and close out the construction site.
  • Walk the project daily to ensure work is completed safely, meets quality standards, and aligns with the project schedule.
  • Communicate early and often, providing consistent factual information to the project team (e.g., project manager, design manager, customer, site team, subcontractors, field operations).
  • Conduct required meetings to coordinate subcontractor activities on-site.
  • Review all drawings (e.g., shop, architectural, structural) when issued to the field and coordinate and maintain a current set at all times.
  • Study project documents to ensure the project is built per plans and specifications and in accordance with the contract.
  • Review the project budget with the Project Manager on a regular basis. Stay attuned to project financials and be aware of the impacts the site team can have on the budget.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work for review and approval by the Project Manager.
  • May assist the Project Manager in locating and evaluating potential subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers and participate in pre-award meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of various reports, such as cost-to-complete, monthly billings, and status reports.
  • Implement and execute project closeout and punch list procedures.
  • Take ownership of overall coordination and management of the project team, including the Project Manager (PM) and Design Manager (DM), to ensure buyout and procurement are on schedule once site activities start.
  • Assume ownership of the schedule after mobilization and ensure proper management of the schedule to allow for proper closeout to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of related construction experience.
  • Preferred experience includes candidates who have held overall responsibility for field activities on the project site, including collaboration between design, project, and schedule management.
  • Experience with large construction projects in the following markets: Manufacturing, Food and Beverage, Automotive, Distribution, and Mission Critical. Project volumes typically range from $10M to over $200M.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to manage and direct on-site project teams to successful completions.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, financial reports, and legal/contract documents.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Energetic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a team environment and exemplifies Gray’s Core Values, with a passion for collaboration and professional development.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications. Skills in utilizing Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and SharePoint.

  • Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration.
  • The noise level is generally moderate to loud.
  • Overtime may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May lead multiple subordinate supervisors and other support staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Takes ownership of training newer team members.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100K to $150K.
