Site Civil Engineering Section Manager

We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration. This role is a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence as the Site Civil Engineering Section Manager for our Building Engineering Services Team in the Georgia/Alabama area.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior leader and mentor within the Site Civil Design Group, managing and building a design production team.
- Oversee staff management responsibilities, including workflow and utilization, mentoring and staff development, forecasting and scheduling, quality control, and fostering a team environment.
- Function as a technical lead on site development projects, coordinating with other disciplines across HDR.
- Lead the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.
- Engage directly with external clients and internal project managers, market sector leads, business group managers, and other leaders throughout HDR.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policies.
- Build team technical expertise and design production capacity through recruitment, staff development, and training.
- Participate in leadership for technical service functions and support the development of HDR services in site civil planning and design.
- Prepare site civil proposals, including scope development and estimating hours/fee.
- Perform design tasks for site development projects, including:
- Site layout (ordinance review and vehicle turning movements)
- Grading
- Storm drainage
- Stormwater management
- Erosion and sediment control
- Site utility design (sanitary, gas, fire/domestic water, electrical/communication)
- Handle site development permitting, including:
- Researching ordinance and regulatory requirements
- Developing plans within local permitting requirements
- Coordinating with permitting review agencies
- Successfully obtaining all site development permits required to commence construction
- Some regional/national travel will be expected.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in site development and civil design.
- Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
- Extensive knowledge in Civil 3D and other site civil design software (e.g., Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD).
- Site development permitting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or MSCE Degree in Civil Engineering.
- PE license.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills, with the ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Strong operating knowledge of modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD, etc.
- Ability to manage, lead, and mentor other team members.
- Local candidates are preferred.
