About The Role We are building the next generation of solid‑state, grid‑interactive power blocks that enable high‑density, flexible power delivery for datacenters, renewable energy systems, and advanced microgrids. The Simulation Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating component‑level and system‑level simulation models for Solid‑State Transformers (SSTs) and microgrid architectures. The primary focus of the role is on MATLAB/Simulink‑based modeling of power electronics, controls, and grid interaction, supporting product development, application engineering, and system validation. This role collaborates closely with application, and standards engineers, providing simulation insight to guide architecture decisions, control strategy development, and performance validation across a range of grid‑connected and microgrid use cases. Data center and DER‑enabled applications represent key but not exclusive deployment scenarios. Key Responsibilities System‑Level Modeling & Simulation Work with product teams to develop and maintain simulation models for SST‑based microgrid systemsBuild system level models at multiple abstraction levels to balance simulation speed and fidelityEvaluate system behavior related to:Voltage, current, and power control loopsGrid synchronization and islanding detectionDynamic stability and transient responseSupport performance analysis across a wide range of grid conditions and operating points Fault & Protection Studies Perform fault and protection studies using time‑domain simulation.Model and analyze:Short‑circuit and fault conditions (AC and DC where applicable)Inverter‑based fault response and current‑limiting behaviorSST fault ride‑through and protective actionsSupport development and validation of:Protection schemes and logicFault detection thresholds and timingCoordination between SSTs, DERs (where applicable), and utility protectionProvide simulation data to support design decisions, protection settings, and utility or internal reviews HIL (Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop) Simulation Support Work closely with Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop(HIL) teamsAdapt and deploy models for real‑time execution in HIL environmentsCollaborate with controls and test teams to:Validate control firmware against simulated plant modelsExercise fault, protection, and corner‑case scenarios safelyCorrelate HIL results with offline simulations and hardware testingSupport debugging and refinement of models based on HIL and lab feedback Grid Interaction & Standards‑Driven Analysis Simulate grid interaction scenarios relevant to US interconnection expectations, supporting analysis aligned with standards such as:IEEE 1547 / IEEE 1547.1 (as applicable)Provide simulation evidence to support:Design reviewsCertification and compliance readinessUtility and customer technical evaluations Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field3+ years of experience in power system or power electronics simulationStrong hands‑on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, or PSS/E, including:Dynamic system modelingControl system simulationSolid understanding of:Inverter‑based and power‑electronic systemsGrid‑connected and islanded power systemsFault behavior and protection fundamentalsAbility to create structured, maintainable, and reusable simulation models Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related disciplineExperience modeling:SSTs, MV/LV converters, or advanced power conversion systemsMicrogrids or distribution‑level networksFamiliarity with:Simscape Electrical or EMT‑style simulation methodsGrid‑forming and grid‑following control conceptsProtection philosophy for inverter‑based resourcesHands‑on experience with:HIL platforms or real‑time simulation workflowsMIL / SIL / HIL development processesExperience supporting protection, fault analysis, or control validation activities for product development or deployment Benefit at Delta Electronics Americas Life at Delta EEO Statement Delta Electronics Americas is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
