Simulation Engineer
About the role
This position seeks a Simulation Engineer with strong modeling and simulation experience to support the development, integration, and validation of aerospace and defense systems. You will work extensively in MATLAB/Simulink and related environments, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and clearly communicating complex technical concepts.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and execute system models using MATLAB, Simulink, and related simulation environments.
- Implement GN&C functionality within existing architectures and software frameworks.
- Translate system-level requirements into detailed simulation and software implementations.
- Support model-based design, integration, verification, and validation activities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with systems, software, and test engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including test procedures, engineering reports, and design artifacts.
- Participate in design reviews and clearly communicate technical status, issues, and risks to stakeholders.
- Support software implementation and integration activities using Microsoft Visual Studio and Visual C++.
- Execute analysis, simulation, and testing to verify system performance against requirements in areas such as MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, aerospace applications, and guidance, navigation, and control.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- At least 2 years of hands-on MATLAB and Simulink experience (3 or more years preferred).
- Experience working with simulation environments and model-based design tools.
- Experience implementing and testing control systems within simulation environments.
- Ability to translate system requirements into simulation and software implementations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to cross-functional teams.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, missile, spacecraft, or autonomous systems programs.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) concepts and practices.
- Experience with software integration and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Understanding of guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) system fundamentals.
- Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio for software development and integration.
- Experience with Visual C++ or C++ software development.
- Experience with system verification and validation activities, including test planning, execution, and reporting.
Work Environment
This role offers a 9/80 work schedule, alternating between a 36-hour week and a 44-hour week, with every other Friday off to support work–life balance. The position is structured as a long-term engagement of 12 months or more. You will work in a technology-driven environment focused on aerospace and defense systems, using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Microsoft Visual Studio, and C++ for model-based design, simulation, and software integration. The work environment emphasizes collaboration with systems, software, and test engineers, and requires eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $80.00/hr.
Schedule & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Maple Grove, MN. This is a fully onsite position.
