Simulation Educator

About the role

Under the direction of the Simulation Center Manager, the Simulation Educator will work collaboratively with instructors, faculty, leadership and Center for Simulation staff to improve patient safety and outcomes through education, assessment, research and process improvement using innovative experiences using simulation based methodologies.

Leadership

• Serves a role model and advocate for patient safety and quality care.
• Aligns Center activities to support CHOP mission, values, and strategic goals.
• Works in collaboration with the simulation staff and stakeholders to deliver high quality simulation services.
• Maintains a two-way communication with Simulation Manager, Center staff and simulationists to ensure the needs from consults/inquiries for guidance/information through execution of simulation(s) and evaluation are met.
• Self-directed and motivated, requires supervision and consults the Simulation Manager and other staff appropriately.
• Serves as a simulation expert/consultant to CHOP and external committees, work groups, and projects related to the implementation of simulation-based educational activities.
• Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for education activities.
• Facilitates team building and leadership development by working collaboratively with Center partners, including other CHOP departments, external education organizations, and vendors.
• Promotes cost effectiveness and demonstrates appropriate stewardship of Center and CHOP resources.
• Coordinate simulation schedule and set-up resources and support for all simulation operations.
• Program, test, and run scenarios with faculty and instructors to ensure the facility and equipment is set-up for learning sessions.
• Create innovative ideas and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration in simulation education.

Communication

• Interprets and communicates across multiple disciplines/professions.
• Identifies and communicates discovery of latent conditions/threats, system issues, and performance concerns to appropriate CHOP leadership.
• Communicates and collaborates in a positive, professional manner with Center team, faculty, learners and others using the Center services.
• Provide communication to Center Manager on facility, technology, equipment, operational and other needs identified for overall maintenance of the simulation program.
• Creates innovative ideas, evaluates new equipment and identifies, communicates and recommends opportunities for improvement/integration to the Center leadership team.
• Collaborates and communicates with the Center staff to develop and maintain appropriate materials and procedures for scheduling, administration and record keeping simulation based education, orientation and activities.
• Teaches content as needed or assigned within clinical expertise.

Education

• Facilitates the adult learning process that creates safe and supportive learning environment which supports learning across the health care system.
• Demonstrates expertise as a facilitator/debriefer in healthcare simulation.
• In union with subject matter experts, develop and support simulation based curriculum in response to departmental and CHOP based educational, assessment, research and process improvement initiatives for all level of learners.
• Based on a needs assessment, creates, plan, test and implement scenarios with faculty, assuring there are clear, measurable objectives and that the facility, equipment and supplies are appropriately set up for the event.
• Identify the appropriate simulation methodology and educational materials for the different levels and types of training, including the appropriate level objectives, materials, and evaluation tools.
• Facilitate briefing and post debriefing to maximize session learning outcomes.
• Creates, update and maintains shared electronic controlled documents, reference documents, program files and paper and electronic document archive accessed by Maintain and archive confidential simulation program educational records.
• Plans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in simulation programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience.
• Program, test, and run scenarios with faculty/instructors to ensure the facility is set-up for learning sessions.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of simulation programs based on user recommendations and empirical findings.
• Evaluates and provides feedback to course directors/faculty instructors surrounding the simulation activity (ies) including but not limited to debriefing.
• Evaluates the learners' experiences and collated feedback, and distributes to faculty instructors/course directors as part of faculty/facilitator development.
• As needed, secures appropriate learning space for simulation programs and functions as a simulation operator by running scenarios with the faculty instructors/course director.

Technical

• Maintains technical proficiency with the basic aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting of different simulation technologies.
• Supports and maintains departmental databases related to equipment, resources, and program activities.

Other

• Engage in available opportunities to learn and maintain current developments and best practices in simulation including but not limited to - review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation technologies.
• Attend local, regional, and national meetings/conferences at the discretion of the manager.
• Assists with special projects/initiatives as needed.
• Flexible and adaptable, able to work occasional evening/weekends.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in health care, education, or related field - Required
• Master's Degree - Preferred
• At least three (3) years experience in clinical, educational research, and/or healthcare education - Required

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) - within 3 months - Required
• American Heart Association PALS Instructor - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) - within 3 months - Required
• American Heart Association ACLS Instructor - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) - upon hire - Preferred

Pay

Salary range: $92,100.00 - $117,400.00 annually (full-time). Factors such as skills and experience could result in an offer above the range noted.
