Range: $20.67–$29.81 hourly with Employee/Employer retirement, or $17.47–$25.18 hourly with Employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience. 195-day contract, 7.5 hours per day. FLSA status: non-exempt.

About the Role

The Classified Specialist will implement daily student instruction aligned with PAES Lab regulations and Lyon County School District curriculum, creating and maintaining an educational atmosphere that supports effective student learning and district goals. This position reports directly to the school site administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Administer district curriculum aligned with PAES Lab regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure all students learn in a respectful environment.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused PAES Lab.
  • Provide Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to LCSD students with disabilities via PAES Labs.
  • Ensure compliance with special services such as IEPs and other related mandates.
  • Adhere to PAES Lab regulations and assessment guidelines.
  • Foster the district’s Portrait of a Learner for students and staff.
  • Work professionally and collaboratively with administration, staff, parents, and community.
  • Integrate technology into instructional programs, curriculum, and lessons.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for all students and the LCSD PAES Lab Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and administrators to recruit students receiving Special Education and Section 504 services for PAES Labs.
  • Collaborate with case managers on PAES Lab services and provide data to the IEP team about student progress on transition goals.
  • Collaborate with the PAES Lab Coordinator to ensure materials and data are updated.
  • Handle stress and interact appropriately with supervisors, coworkers, students, and the community.
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.
  • Participate in other job-related duties and activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • AA Degree or earned credit equivalent.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada substitute teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education.

  • Participate as a collaborative member with faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in-service.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively in written, oral, and non-verbal terms.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
  • Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods.
  • Dexterity and coordination to handle files, paper, and occasional lifting of materials (up to 25 pounds).
  • Reaching for items above and below waist and head level, including bending, squatting, and stooping.
  • Manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate computers and educational technology (e.g., LCD projector, SmartBoard, tablets).
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to climate-controlled classrooms and outdoor weather conditions ranging from mild to extreme temperatures.
  • Occasional to frequent exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud.
  • Work in crowded environments.
  • Potential hazards include classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand-operated machinery.
