Signal Sys Testing Maintainer

About the role

Responsible for complex Signal System testing, upgrades, and repairs for the Signal Systems Section. Performs programming of programmable microprocessor-based signal equipment and high-level mandated system tests for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Ways, Structures & Amenities Division.

Responsibilities

• Performs necessary programming of microprocessor-based Signal System components including, but not limited to GENISYS, Microlock, VHLC, ElectrologIXS, and VECOM TWC equipment.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces microprocessors, computers, and recorder/analyzing equipment; interprets and analyzes data.
• Performs complex tests on Signal Systems including Approach Locking, Route Locking, Detector Locking, Traffic Locking, and Time Locking.
• Performs Vital Relay testing.
• Interprets circuit configurations and integrated circuit flow diagrams to develop and implement effective solutions for operational faults of Signal subsystems and components.
• Maintains the appropriate testing period for all complex Signal System tests; creates and maintains all appropriate documentation for these tests.
• Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and maintains complex electronic Signal Systems in the field and in the shop.
• Troubleshoots and repairs/replaces the fiber optics network used for the Signal System.
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs to the system and components including PC boards, microprocessors, power supplies, and subassemblies (mechanical/electronic/electrical).
• Conducts diagnostic tests on Signal subsystems and components.
• Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs/replaces electrical equipment using voltages ranging from 12vdc to 480vac.
• Ensures safe functioning of signal equipment governing train movement during repairs, renewals, replacement, or inclement weather.
• Complies with AREMA, FRA, APTA, and FTA rules and regulations.
• Interfaces with city technicians, vendors, internal and external contacts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, plus two (2) years of experience in preventative and corrective Signal maintenance on an electrified rail transit system or Class I Railroad.
• Must pass a technical test.
• Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
• Valid Driver’s License Class-C; must obtain a Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class-A Restricted within 90 days of employment.
• No Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months; not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record; not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
• Must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment.
• Proficiency with personal computer (PC) and software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
• Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability.
• May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
• Ability to be mobile 100% of work time, exert physical effort while standing, walking, or lifting materials/tools/objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Position requires working in crowded and tight spaces, tunnel and aerial structures.
• Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50 lbs such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment, and other required equipment.

Pay

$40.12–$41.36 per hour
