Primary Purpose
Installs, inspects, fabricates and repairs various signs according to established policies, procedures, blueprints, plans and specifications and in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Essential Job Functions
- Designs, cuts, lays out and installs signs per the MUTCD guidelines;
- Prepares materials and surfaces for fabrication and repair of signs;
- Prepares locations for installation by cutting or trimming trees as needed;
- Installs sign poles for new signs.
Knowledge / Skills
- Working knowledge of basic math;
- Of sign design and layout;
- Of the materials and equipment used in the manufacturing of signs;
- Of hazards and safety precautions and practices;
- Of procedures and practices applied in inspecting, installing, repairing, and fabricating traffic signs;
- Of the methods, equipment and materials used in painting, marking and striping of County streets;
- Of the operation and maintenance of the paint/striping machine.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Any combination of formal training or experience in sign maintenance and operations or related maintenance experience totaling two (2) years;
- Obtain and maintain ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within six (6) months of date of hire;
- Obtain and maintain IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Technician and Signs and Markings Level I certification within one (1) year of date of hire;
- Must possess and maintain OSHA and First Aid, CPR and AED certifications or obtain within six (6) months of hire (training provided by Santa Fe County).
Supplemental Information
- Working Conditions: Work is performed in both a shop setting and outdoors with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, allergens, chemicals, electrical energy and extreme heat or cold. Work involves high risk and potentially dangerous situations working near hazardous/moving materials, equipment and machinery; exposure to excessive noise; and working with hostile and/or offensive individuals. The use of protective clothing, equipment, devices and materials is required.
- Work schedule may include evening and weekend hours.
- Position will be subject to random drug screening, per DOT regulation.
- Conditions Of Employment: Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
