About The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and energetic team member to join us as a Part-Time Sign Production & Pre-Press Assistant. In this role, you will bridge the gap between prepress technical setup and real-world manufacturing—taking artwork files through software like Adobe Illustrator and Onyx RIP to produce finished, high-quality custom signs and graphics.
Key Responsibilities
- Physical Fabrication & Equipment Operation (75%):
- Sign Assembly & Substrates: Mount, laminate, weed, and finish printed materials. Safely trim, square, and cut rigid substrates (ACM/metal, PVC, foam core) using a vertical panel saw and hand tools.
- Large-Format Printing & Maintenance: Set up, run, and perform routine daily/weekly maintenance (head cleanings, wiper checks) on eco-solvent printers and wide-format plotters.
- Vinyl Application & Finishing: Apply cut vinyl and printed graphics to various substrates, windows, and walls cleanly without bubbles, silvering, or wrinkles.
- Material Handling & Quality Control: Perform quality assurance checks against work orders. Unload, stock, and track raw production inventory (media rolls, board stock, hardware).
- Field Installation: Perform light on-site installations of wall graphics, window vinyl, and rigid signs using ladders, step stools, and hand/power tools.
- Pre-Press & File Setup (25%):
- Print Queue Management: Import, nest, and color-manage print jobs using Onyx RIP software to optimize material usage.
- Technical File Prep: Use Adobe Illustrator strictly for pre-press technical adjustments—adding cut lines/registration marks, setting up bleeds, scaling, and outputting production files (no creative graphic design required).
Qualifications & Physical Demands
- Pre-Press & Software Skills:
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator strictly for pre-press file setup (vector path editing, scaling, setting up bleeds, adding cut contours) and experience or familiarity with Onyx RIP software.
- Equipment & Tool Aptitude:
- Comfortable and proficient using shop hand tools, power drills, cold/roll laminators, and substrate cutting equipment (such as vertical panel saws, utility knives, and straight edges).
- Physical & On-Site Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 50 lbs (media rolls, sheet substrates like ACM/PVC).
- Comfort standing for extended periods and leaning over waist-high production tables for precise vinyl weeding, masking, and mounting.
- Comfort working at heights using ladders and step stools for light field installations (window vinyl, wall graphics, sign mounting).
- Work Ethic & Detail:
- Exceptional attention to detail, precision measuring skills, a safety-first mindset around cutting tools, and strong communication in a fast-paced shop environment.
Compensation
