Sign Installation Assistant Apprentice

About the role

Are you handy with power tools, comfortable on a ladder, and looking for a trade where every day is different? At FASTSIGNS – Pittsburgh, we don’t just “hang signs”—we build the visual identity of our city. As an Installation Assistant you will be the “right hand” to the Lead Installer, helping transport, assemble, and mount custom signs across the region while learning electrical, carpentry, and architectural graphics.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Installer in the safe and precise mounting of channel letters, monument signs, and high‑end wall graphics.
• Perform the “Pre‑Flight” check: ensure the van is stocked with the correct drill bits, fasteners, and hardware before leaving the shop.
• Help secure signs into brick, concrete, and metal, acting as the second set of hands to keep everything level, centered, and safe.
• Serve as the ground‑safety spotter during bucket‑truck and aerial‑lift operations, protecting the public and crew.
• Proactively learn the technical skills needed to eventually move into a Lead Installer role.

Requirements

• Ability to safely use a cordless drill, impact driver, and tape measure (read to 1/16 in).
• Comfort working on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms up to 30 ft + (no fear of heights).
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb + and work outdoors in varied Pittsburgh weather.
• Mechanical aptitude – friends call you for help fixing things.
• Reliability – “clock‑in‑early” professional; trucks leave on time.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required for insurance).

Pay

$17.00 – $22.50 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (flexibility for occasional overtime or early starts).
