Responsibilities

This is sign fabrication work at the full performance level. Work includes the use computer-automated equipment in the fabrication of printed sign material. Positions located in the Airport assignment use fabrication and power tools to build structural displays. Positions in the Streets department use silk screens and stencils in production of signage. Employees have responsibility for completing assigned sign-making tasks. Work involves light physical effort and is performed under the direction of a trades supervisor.

Requirements

Level of Education Required: High School/GED.

Minimum Acceptable Training And Experience: Candidates must have education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade AND three years of experience learning the sign fabrication trade as a helper or apprentice, which shall have included lettering work by painting and the use of computer operated graphics hardware and software to produce signs; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources. Note: Completion of a post‑high‑school vocational trades program with certification in graphic arts/design, sign making, machinist, or a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Successful completion of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in graphic arts/design, visual communication or a related field may substitute for two years of experience.

Qualifications

Must be able to pass and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and AOA (Airfield Operations Area) clearance at the time of appointment and during tenure of employment for positions in the Department of Aviation.

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
