About the role
SI Leader I (OMS-II students leading OMS-I courses)
SI Leaders will facilitate SI Sessions and Exam Preparation Sessions.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate SI Sessions, lasting 1 hour, the week before each exam for the course they are assigned to.
- Facilitate Exam Preparation Sessions, lasting 2 hours, the week before each exam for the course the SI Leader is chosen to lead.
- Prepare for each SI Session and Exam Preparation Session:
- SI Sessions - SI Leaders will be paid for up to two hours of preparation time for each SI session.
- Exam Prep Sessions - SI Leaders will be paid for up to eight hours of preparation time for each Exam Preparation Session.
- Attend meetings with OAS staff, course faculty, and other Supplemental Instruction Program staff as needed to help develop lesson plans for SI Sessions and Exam Preparation Sessions.
- Work 10 hours during the week before each exam for the course they are leading, based on the course schedule and SI activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, conferred on or before the agreed upon start date.
- Current OSU-COM OMS-II student.
- Previous tutoring or SI experience is helpful but not required.
- Previously passed all required medical school pre-clinical courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
- No prior history of probation while attending OSU-COM.
- Ability to develop and manage a classroom environment (including Zoom and in-person classrooms).
- Positive and professional attitude.
- Ability to work well within a group and to motivate students at various levels of academic performance.
- Ability to hold scheduled sessions.
