Carnegie Mellon University’s Transportation Services department is searching for a Shuttle/Escort Driver to join the team in an exciting and challenging work environment.
About the role
In this role, you will operate shuttle buses and multi-passenger vans on predetermined routes, making stops at designated locations, and on call-out to student residences within an approximate one-and-a-half-mile radius of campus or between any university buildings, including off-campus housing.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and security of passengers by immediately reporting any criminal or suspicious activity, disturbances, threats, or requests for medical assistance.
- Report hazardous road conditions, traffic citations, violations, or incidents.
- Safely operate assigned vehicles, including conducting visual and physical inspections before, during, and at the end of each shift.
- Refuel and clean the interior of the vehicle as needed, and report any maintenance problems or concerns.
- Follow all traffic laws as outlined in Title 18, The PA Vehicle Code, and all Federal DOT regulations and requirements for CDL operators.
- Maintain constant direct contact with and follow all instructions from the Transportation Manager.
- Adhere to established routes, department guidelines, rules, and protocols.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of previous driving experience.
- Valid PA Driver’s License.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement (Class A or B, without air brake restriction, and current medical card).
- Valid DOT Medical Certificate.
Requirements
- Successful background check.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, subject to post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.
- PA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153).
- Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam.
- Driver history check, including record of violations and crashes.
- Registration and electronic consent for initial full query with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, resulting in no prohibitions.
- Consent to yearly FMCSA Clearinghouse and driver Motor Vehicle Record queries.

Pay
Hourly pay basis.
Schedule
Full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt position with evening hours and shift work required.
