About the role
Nucor’s River Metals Recycling division in Cincinnati, OH seeks a Second Shift Shredder Supervisor to lead second-shift operations of the shredding department. This hands-on leadership role oversees the shredder, downstream processing equipment, mobile equipment, and material handling systems while managing a team of operators and maintenance personnel. The position coordinates with day-shift leadership, facility management, and maintenance teams on parts ordering, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily leadership in plant safety and operations.
- Develop and maintain positive customer relationships.
- Establish and manage production work schedules.
- Hire, train, develop, and coach staff.
- Model and enforce all safety and environmental policies and practices.
- Support long-range planning and budgeting with management.
- Conduct monthly inventory.
- Take a hands-on approach to working alongside team members.
- Shift hours: 4:00 pm – 2:00 am.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering or related field, or a minimum of 3 years management experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Operations or manufacturing experience with heavy equipment.
- Scrap metal processing experience.
- Maintenance experience with mechanical and electrical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Inventory management, shipping, and receiving using lean manufacturing principles.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of customers and internal contacts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with personal computers, software, spreadsheets, and databases (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize work; adapt to changing environments; organized approach to tasks.
- Knowledge and experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance and engineering fundamentals.
- Experience developing effective preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
