About the role
The Shredder Operations Supervisor oversees production and quality control of the shredder operations. They communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor about repair and maintenance issues and assign daily duties to equipment operators, pickers, and cleaners. They assist other supervisors and teams with operational issues and ensure a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensures safe work practices and equipment are used at all times and that documentation, inspections, and current practices are in accordance with corporate safety policies, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines.
- Provides leadership to department employees on multiple shifts, assigning work schedules to minimize overtime and optimize production rates.
- Backs up Shredder operators in emergency situations.
- Reviews repair and maintenance needs with the Shredder Manager and Maintenance Supervisor, determining necessary parts and lead times.
- Schedules major projects including manpower, equipment, downtime, and timeline.
- Ensures processing and storage of finished goods comply with internal controls.
- Implements and maintains a Quality Control program focusing on relationships with Commercial and Sales departments.
- Prepares and monitors daily production reports to improve throughput, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5-10 years of manufacturing/industrial work experience, with 2-5 years of managerial experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Prior experience managing and leading a work crew.
- Maintenance background preferred.
- Previous exposure to working within a unionized environment is a plus.

- Ability and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; deal with problems involving several specific variables in or from standard situations.
