About the role
Provide instruction and manage a classroom in the regular teacher's absence, following provided lesson plans, managing student behavior, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations (50% of time).
- Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate (25% of time).
- Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes (20% of time).
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested (5% of time).
Requirements
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute authorization or teaching license.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Basic classroom management and planning skills.
- Basic organizational skills.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills.
- Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement.
- Ability and desire to work as a team member.
- Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous successful teaching experience.
- Experience working in the public sector.
- Experience advising school clubs/co-curricular activities.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds).
- Primarily works indoors in a normal classroom and school district environment.
- Typically a moderate noise level.
- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Frequent bending and reaching.
- Occasional lifting, pulling, and pushing.
- Speaking and hearing.
- Visual concentration.
- Eye/hand coordination.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard.
- Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics.
- May work outdoors when monitoring student activities.
- Work location is subject to change to meet the requirements of the organization.
