Shopify Plus Technical Lead

We’re looking for a Shopify Plus Technical Lead to help guide a headless commerce proof of concept focused on integrating Shopify checkout into a Next.js architecture. This role offers the opportunity to shape technical strategy, lead solution design, and deliver modern commerce experiences using Shopify Hydrogen, React, and TypeScript. Responsibilities Lead the technical delivery of headless Shopify Plus commerce solutions from discovery and architecture through implementation and launchPartner with product, UX, delivery, and solution strategy teams to define architecture approaches, technical tradeoffs, and integration patternsDesign and build custom storefronts using Shopify Hydrogen, React, and TypeScriptDevelop and maintain GraphQL-based integrations using Shopify Storefront and Admin APIsTranslate business needs into clear, maintainable technical designs and architecture documentationSupport the design of scalable storefront experiences with modern frontend performance practicesBuild and integrate custom Shopify apps and connect Shopify with external systems and platformsContribute technical leadership throughout requirements gathering, implementation, and delivery Skills Strong experience with Shopify Plus and headless commerce architectureDeep knowledge of Shopify Hydrogen and custom headless storefront implementationsAdvanced proficiency in React and TypeScriptStrong understanding of Shopify Storefront and Admin GraphQL APIsExperience designing GraphQL-first data models and workflowsKnowledge of SSR, streaming, caching, and frontend performance optimizationHands-on experience building or integrating Node.js-based Shopify appsExperience working with authentication, webhooks, background jobs, and event-driven architecturesSolid understanding of Shopify commerce concepts such as products, variants, collections, pricing, discounts, inventory, orders, and fulfillment Preferred Skills Experience with Checkout KitBackground in migrating legacy or monolithic commerce platforms to headless ShopifyExperience with Remix, Next.js, or similar modern React frameworksFamiliarity with composable commerce and MACH principlesExperience integrating Shopify with ERP, OMS, WMS, PIM, CMS, or other third-party platformsExperience with Shopify configuration, instance management, and multi-store or multi-region setupsStrong collaboration skills and comfort working across product, UX, and architecture teamsAbility to evaluate and adopt emerging commerce technologies Horizontal is committed to building an inclusive environment where different perspectives are valued, respected, and welcomed.
