Shop Welder/Fabricator

Duties

• Operate ARC and MIG welding units and equipment effectively.
• Weld pipe, templates, trench boxes, steel piles, and welding related equipment repairs.
• Weld and assemble metal components to repair construction and support equipment.
• Read and understand fabrication drawings and specifications from Engineering.
• Attend work on the schedule established by the employer and without excessive absenteeism.
• Work with the crews as directed when not welding.
• Follow all safe work practices.
• Generate material lists as needed and access areas to be welded by climbing ladders if necessary.
• Use a disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts before welding.
• Maintain arc and speed of movement to achieve specified penetration in structural welding processes.
• Perform all-position welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead planes.
• Examine existing welds for bead size and quality specifications.
• Prepare work pieces by grinding or cutting.
• Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
• Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
• Fabricate new or replacement parts for various equipment and structural applications.
• Assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
• Change hoses, fittings, air valves, etc., as needed and clean up work area daily.

Requirements

• Stick (ARC) and wire (MIG) welding skills, ability to pass pre-employment Weld Test, and understanding of basic welding safety procedures.
• A good work ethic, ability to adjust to change, role modeling, willingness to be a team player, take ownership, act with integrity, and contribute to company success.
• Physical capability to rig, lift heavy odd-shaped parts safely and effectively with forklifts/overhead cranes.
• Ability to navigate rugged terrain, work in all weather conditions, and maintain a work schedule.
• Availability to work overtime.
• Physical stamina to stand, squat, stoop, bend, lift for extended periods, including lifting at least 50-90 pounds personally and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
• Pass post-offer drug screen.

Desired Qualifications

• Certified welding certificates preferred.
• Experience with heavy equipment and custom fabrication.
• Valid driver's license with a clean MVR.
• 1-2 years of experience in a similar role.
