Shop Technician - Rental Store

Thompson Tractor is seeking a Rental Store Shop Technician to maintain and repair equipment in adherence to all safety standards.

About the role

The Rental Store Shop Technician performs minor repairs, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on Thompson Rents equipment, including engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical components. Responsibilities include disassembly, reassembly, adjustments for optimal performance, and effective use of service information systems.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and follow all applicable safety standards and procedures.
• Plan and perform minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
• Perform the following tasks on engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical components:
  • Remove and install
  • Disassemble and reassemble
  • Minor adjustments as needed for service
• Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Demonstrate proper use of service information systems.
• Order and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
• Test and adjust components for optimal performance.
• Work independently in the shop as required.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of one (1) year's work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education.
• Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills.
• Med Card and CDL preferred.
• Valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.

Skills and Competencies

• Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic and repair skills.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.

Job Training

• Area-specific technical training.
• OSHA and MSHA required training.
• Vendor technical sites (Infocast, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.).

Working Conditions

• Work typically performed in a Service Department shop.
• Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions.
• Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time often required.
