Shop Technician

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC systems for new and used equipment
  • Support continuous improvement projects by leveraging controls expertise
  • Observe functioning of equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair, and/or replacement of electrical, electronic components and mechanical components
  • Strong understanding of electronic and electrical schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units
  • Able to disassemble machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from observation to diagnose equipment problems
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed in the central database

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Substantial understanding of AC and DC electrical systems
  • Intermediate to High skill level with Mechanical aptitude/ability
  • High level of electrical aptitude / ability
  • Experience with pneumatics and electricity
  • Experience working in an industrial environment
  • Associates degree in electronics technology or equivalent certification
  • Basic working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software (RSLogix, Studio 5000, PanelView, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license

  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel is required for all shop technicians
