Shop Tech - Circuit Breakers

Under the direction of Shop Leadership, the Shop Tech receives and carries out work assignments from management and internal customers to support shop operations and complete customer orders.

Responsibilities

  • Complete incoming, visual inspection for electrical and mechanical defects.
  • Prepare consignment equipment for painting.
  • Read & interpret PDS/SDS for paints, primers, and associated industrial/auto painting products.
  • Operate pressure washer and steam clean equipment.
  • Solvent wipe, apply body filler, and operate orbital sander.
  • Paint consignment equipment, mix paints, solvents, and activators.
  • Operate HVLP pressure pot, apply primer and topcoats.
  • Material handling: transport equipment via forklift or pallet jack in and out of paint room, palletize, crate, and shrink wrap.
  • Offload and load equipment onto trucks.
  • Troubleshoot, test, maintain, redesign, rebuild, retrofit, and/or repair electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, low or medium voltage circuit switchgear, breakers).
  • May rewind, paint, or weld based on location.
  • Complete test reports to Company and Customer standards and timelines.
  • Demonstrate a continual effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other departments.
  • Communicate with PM, Manager, or other designee for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent job information.
  • Work with team members to effectively complete assignments, sharing information about customer needs and product requirements.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area; observe all company, local, and federal safety rules, best practices, and policies.
  • Provide offsite technical support as required or assigned by manager.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • For positions utilizing a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of safety standards such as OSHA and state safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA.
  • Preferred experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, or performing start-up on switchgear up to 500kV class.
  • Preferred training from the military (e.g., Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY, or related programs).
  • Proven mechanical skills and/or experience with low and high voltage equipment (requirements vary by location).
  • Ability to effectively problem solve.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, looking up information, and creating reports.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to follow written and oral directions, read work orders/specs, and work in a team environment.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and produce quality work.

Pay

$20.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience, with eligibility for overtime.

Schedule

Full-time, union position. Up to 50% travel may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs daily.
  • Crawling, climbing, and standing for long periods.
  • Working in non-ideal conditions.
