Shop Team Lead

About the role

As the Shop Team Lead at Maguire, you will provide leadership, mentoring, and overall team oversight for the production operations team, including welders, operators, laborers, production scheduling, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering specifications, prints, and job orders to workers and assign jobs between areas.
• Assign personnel to efficiently produce items being built.
• Confer with supervisors and other leaders to coordinate operations and activities within or between shifts and other functional areas.
• Provide guidance and expert advice on technical, systems, or process-related topics.
• Enforce safety procedures and guidelines, and housekeeping practices.
• Identify training needs and conduct training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures.
• Observe technical performance of area staff and provide on-the-spot guidance.
• Drive operational improvements and efficiencies to streamline the production process.
• Participate fully in quality initiatives and attend training and complete assessments as required.
• Position heavy fabricated metal components in fit-up jigs and weld fixtures utilizing overhead cranes.
• Operate robotic and manual weld machines.
• Operate heavy equipment such as skid loaders, bobcats, forklifts, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
• Flexibility to work in various manufacturing areas as requested.
• Ability to understand and perform all jobs of personnel being assigned.
• 1 year of supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Work Environment

• Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
• Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
• Must be able to see details at close range.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
