About the role
This position supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees' work.
Responsibilities
- Supervises employees in performing routine and preventative maintenance on automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and small machines.
- Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with subordinate staff.
- Motivates, trains, coaches, and guides subordinate employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
- Ensures safe work practices are adhered to by shop personnel.
- Assigns work based on information available from the operator of the disabled equipment regarding the nature of the problem.
- Ensures Quality Assurance Review (QAR) requirements are followed and met each year.
- Controls operation of the fuel service facilities and monitors fuel conservation.
- Prepares and maintains inventory and supply records and initiates purchase requisitions.
- Oversees the Shop and Warehouse, ensuring the warehouse is maintained according to policies and procedures.
- Reviews and evaluates equipment for sale, trade, or junk and submits proper forms.
- Assists in conducting and making preparations for the sale of equipment.
- Assists and directs repair personnel in solving difficult repair problems which may also involve consultation with outside sources.
- Conducts monthly industrial safety inspections of automotive shop, welding shop, and fueling facilities and completes necessary quality assurance checklists.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles & techniques of auto and equipment repair work.
- The operation of heavy equipment.
- Materials used in highway maintenance and in the repair of automotive/heavy equipment.
- Procedures used to make repairs to total cost of equipment.
- Invoice processing, purchasing procedures, and recordkeeping techniques.
- The use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Handling heavy equipment.
- Verbal and written communication.
- Computer operations and the use of office software.
- Supervising employees.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, and carrying light to medium loads.
- Scheduling and performing routine maintenance on a fleet of vehicles.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have:
- A valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record.
- A Class B CDL is required at time of hire. Obtain a CDL Class "A" Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class "A" license within 10 months of appointment to the position.
- May be required to work with or around hazardous materials.
- May be required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- Responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of section 215.422, F.S., related State Comptroller's rules, and the Department of Transportation's invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.

Pay
The anticipated bi-weekly hiring salary is $2,587.15, which translates to an annual salary range of $57,213.30 - $74,040.74.
