The Shop Laborer supports the Company’s shop operations including: trucking, fabrication, and maintenance departments by carrying, lifting, loading, and unloading, transporting, storing, logging, and distributing materials as directed. The shop laborer will also assist with the maintenance, housekeeping, and other operational support activities conducted inside and outside of the shop.
Responsibilities
- Provides physical assistance to mechanics, welders, truck drivers, and equipment operators to support operational objectives and activities
- Performs routine maintenance duties as directed
- Reports any line problems or issues to assigned Company supervisor for assistance
- Performs job duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Adheres to all Company safety policies and procedures
- Maintains the cleanliness of the shop’s interior areas and exterior grounds
- Assists with the loading, unloading, and storage of materials from trucks, trailers, or shipping containers
- Moves and organizes materials as directed
- Gathers waste from facility trash bins and take to the exterior dumpsters as needed
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by Company management
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.
- PPE includes but is not limited to: hard hat, task specific safety glasses, life vest, respirators, task specific hearing protection, task specific safety shoes (steel toe or metatarsal), and/or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and may change based on the location in which the work is being completed.
- Ability to walk, step, climb, and otherwise move from one location on the job site to another.
- Depending on equipment in use, the chosen candidate must be able to physically get into and get out of equipment through the use of vertical mounted ladders up to and including 10' or more in height.
- Ability to visually see worksite environment and observe equipment operations (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, and sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to complete repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders. Working at elevated heights.
- Ability to lift up to and including fifty (50) lb. objects as required.
- Ability to carry up to and including fifty (50) lb. objects as required.
- Ability to adapt to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure to the elements.
- Ability to work outdoors in all-weather conditions.
Experience
- 1+ year of general laborer or related experience required
Skills
- Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and co-workers
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, equipment
- Ability to learn and gain knowledge
- Ability to follow work orders or receive instructions
- Ability to adhere to Safety policies and procedures
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required
Licenses or Certifications
- OSHA 10 certification preferred
Travel
- Local travel may be required pending assignments from management
