Shop Foreman - Print - (SDSP)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides daily work direction and supervision to incarcerated workers to ensure production goals and shop objectives are met.
  • Interviews, selects, assigns, evaluates, and recommends termination of incarcerated workers.
  • Trains workers in industrial sewing, garment construction, upholstery techniques, embroidery, measuring, cutting, assembly, equipment operation, quality standards, as well as the safe use of tools and chemicals.
  • Covers other shops as needed, and/or oversight of workers from another shops.

Requirements

  • Develops and maintains production schedules to meet deadlines, maximize efficiency, and ensure timely completion of customer orders.
  • Ensures quality control standards are met, and products and products conform to customer expectations.
  • Sets and monitors individual skill levels to promote productivity and skill development.
  • Maintains accountability for chemical, tools, materials, equipment, inventory, incarcerated workers.
  • Monitors shop safety and enforces all safety procedures and department policies.
  • Orders supplies, materials, and equipment, and maintains appropriate and balanced inventory levels.
  • Evaluates work in progress and provides coaching and corrective instruction as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of business operations and business management principles including revenue, expenses, productivity, and profitability.
  • Experience managing the day-to-day operations of a business, department, or production environment including staffing, workflow, resources, and competing priorities.
  • Understanding of financial management, including budgeting, job costing, pricing, labor and materials costs, profit margins, and cost controls.
  • Experience in managing inventory, including establishing appropriate inventory levels, monitoring usage, and controlling waste.
  • Experience supervising and developing staff, including assigning work, setting expectations, monitoring performance, coaching workers, resolving problems, and holding workers accountable.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and experience establishing and maintaining standards to ensure products and services consistently meet customer expectations.
  • Understanding of customer service and customer relationship management, including responding to inquiries, resolving issues, meeting deadlines, maintaining a positive long-term working relationship.
  • Experience working with vendors and suppliers, including sourcing product and materials, negotiating or evaluating pricing, and resolving quality and delivery issues.
  • Ability to evaluate business opportunities, new products and services based on customer demand, production capability, cost and potential profitability.
  • Experience coordinating with sales, customer service, purchasing, inventory, and production.
  • Strong organizational and decision making skills with the ability to manage many projects, customer deadlines, production priorities, and operational responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Experience in a Print Shop is highly desired.
  • Knowledge Of Department of Corrections policies, procedures, and institutional operations.
  • Behavior, attitudes, and supervision of incarcerated individuals.
  • Vocational and technical training methods and instructional techniques.
  • Manage, work with, and maintain garment/upholstery shop equipment.
  • Inventory control and basic record keeping systems.
  • Computers and software applications, including Microsoft, Global Shop, Adobe Suite, and other related software.
  • Ability To Supervise and direct a workforce in a secure environment.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports.
  • Respond appropriately to safety and security situations.
  • Remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Train and mentor individuals with varying skill levels.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with direct and indirect supervisors, correctional staff, incarcerated workers, internal and external partners.
