Shop Foreman/Apprentice Trainer - Watertown, NY

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical training and coaching to apprentice technicians, including proper diagnostic, repair, safety, and documentation procedures.
  • Provides supervision and real-time performance feedback to apprentices.
  • Attends recruiting events on behalf of the apprentice program.
  • Works closely with the Reconditioning Mechanical Supervisor to identify training needs, track progress, and address performance concerns.
  • Reviews apprentice work and repair orders for quality, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to dealership standards.
  • Road tests vehicles as needed to verify repair quality.
  • Aids in diagnosing and repairing mechanical concerns on pre-owned vehicles.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe shop environment.
  • Assists with coordinating repairs and communicating delays or concerns to the Reconditioning Mechanical Supervisor.
  • Helps ensure repairs are assigned and completed according to technician skill level and training needs.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of automotive repair and diagnostic experience.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair skills across a wide range of vehicle systems.
  • Ability to teach and coach technicians with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong understanding of automotive repair processes, shop workflow, and quality control standards.
  • Ability to review repairs for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience mentoring, training, or leading technicians.
  • Manufacturer or ASE certifications.
  • Previous experience working in a dealership, reconditioning, or high-volume service environment.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to occasionally perform repetitive motion tasks such as typing on a computer, writing on documents, using common hand tools.
  • The ability to regularly traverse areas throughout the dealership.
  • The ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time.
