About the role

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking a Fleet Technician II to join the Support Services team. This position provides repairs and preventative maintenance services to the city's fleet vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects fleet vehicles and estimates damage of vehicles involved in collisions and normal wear and tear
  • Completes repairs and preventative maintenance to vehicles in a shop environment
  • Calculates an accurate cost estimate of repair work as assigned including labor, supplies, and parts costs
  • Affixes a variety of parts and equipment on assigned vehicles including lights, trailer hitches, and generators
  • Performs annual DOT safety inspections and diesel opacity testing
  • Ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, local, industry safety standards, and emissions mandates
  • Performs needed repairs and maintenance in the field; lubricates, repairs, and diagnoses malfunctions of city vehicles
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
  • Possession, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado Driver's License not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possession or obtain within 12 months of hire (3) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT), or equivalent certification tests
  • Possession or obtain within 24 months of hire Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) in Medium/Heavy Trucks, or equivalent master certification

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of best practices for the inspection and repair of assigned vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs and fleet software applications
  • Ability to exert 50-100 lbs. occasionally; 10-25 lbs. frequently; or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
  • Read manuals, understand diagrams and interpret video

Schedule

Monday - Friday; tentatively 2:30pm - 11:00pm
