About the role

At Tenneco, we set industry standards and strive to be better than best-in-class. This role consolidates responsibilities from Receiving, Stockroom, and Shipping to create a more efficient workflow. The Shipping and Receiving Specialist will be responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials, supplies, and equipment, as well as preparing items for shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Create a quality product and participate in training to meet customer requirements and standards.
  • Comply with legal and company safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Identify potential emergency situations and report incidents to supervisors.
  • Adhere to quality, environmental, health, and safety policies outlined in ISO/TS 1649, OSHA 18001, and ISO14001.
  • Verify incoming and outgoing shipments by comparing counts, weights, and measurements with purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.
  • Record receiving data in SAP and other systems.
  • Sort and place received items on racks, shelves, or bins according to predetermined criteria.
  • Monitor product quality using inspection tools like scales and visual aids.
  • Prepare items for shipment, including labeling, banding, and shrink-wrapping.
  • Ensure outgoing shipments meet specifications by verifying information against bills of lading, invoices, and production schedules.
  • Assemble and select containers for shipping; load/unload shipments using forklifts, hoists, and hand jacks.
  • Store materials and supplies in designated locations following company organization standards.
  • Maintain stock records and perform cycle counting to verify SAP inventory levels.
  • Issue supplies from the stockroom to production workers and keep records of materials issued.
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment; achieve forklift certification and perform daily safety checks.
  • Use computer systems to maintain inventory levels and track material movement.
  • Monitor scrap and nonconforming parts to determine causes of failures and take corrective action.
  • Conduct cycle counts on raw materials and consumables to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly warehouse, stockroom, and work area, including sweeping daily.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment.
  • Communicate with relevant departments regarding incoming shipments, inventory levels, and shipment schedules.
  • Relay information and special instructions accurately to team members and departments.
  • Assist or fill in for the stockroom clerk as needed.
  • Work overtime as required, which may be mandated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one-year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills; proficiency in SAP or other inventory management software.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, hand jacks, and hoists (certification required).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Mathematical skills to compute rates, ratios, and work with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and the metric system.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as an effective team player.
  • Above-average mechanical ability and strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to handle objects/tools, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
  • Required to walk and climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to extreme heat.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes are required.
