Shipping & Receiving Specialist

About the role

Perform duties related to receiving items into the facility and the shipment of WIP and finished products to suppliers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Write purchase orders for outside supplier operations.
• Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment:
  • Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
• Pack and label items for shipment to customers.
• Issue sub-components to manufacturing.
• Issue sub-components to outsource.
• Handle miscellaneous shipping tasks.
• Inspect shipments for damages or defects; record discrepancies or damages and notify supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
• Maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities as appropriate.
• Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and control standards.
• Lead, guide, and train other employees in performing related work.
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills needed to interact with external customers as well as internal customers at all levels within the company.
• Excellent ability to pay attention to detail.
• Excellent computer skills, including prior experience with ERP systems.
• Must demonstrate excellent writing skills with the ability to prepare, review, and/or approve technical documentation.
• Problem-solving skills.
• High-school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous shipping/receiving experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and rapidly evolving environment.
