Shipping-Receiving Clerk

Responsibilities

  • Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Prepare items for shipment according to quality/productivity standards, ensuring proper labeling and packaging.
  • Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items to verify against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Unpack, examine, and route incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shippers to resolve damages and shortages.
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Perform all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of shipping materials at all times.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow warehouse safety regulations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, based on the business the warehouse supports.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working autonomously.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail in task completion.
  • Competent in maintaining accurate and organized records.
  • Basic knowledge of computers programs for entering data.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Previous experience working in a high-volume distribution, manufacturing, technical service (i.e. testing and repair) or forward logistics operation.
  • Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Time-management skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Requires bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, and reaching.
