Shipping & Receiving Attendant I

About the role

Under direct supervision, the Shipping/Receiving Attendant I learns and follows prescribed procedures for receiving and inventorying incoming eggs and packaging materials, palletizing product from the packing plant, accurately assembling egg orders, and loading trucks to minimize damage in transit.

Responsibilities

  • Check paperwork before unloading; count all items to ensure they match the paperwork.
  • Inspect all items for damage and report any issues to a supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure incoming product is stored in the correct location and labeled with a run number or date received.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in coolers, dock, and warehouse (e.g., wash trucks, sweep floors).
  • Securely wrap all pallets and racks.
  • Work with a supervisor to map out truck loads before loading.
  • Verify the truck is clean and odor-free; secure the dock plate before loading.
  • Use cardboard under flat plates to prevent slipping.
  • Double-check invoices and load sheets to confirm correct items are being palletized.
  • Follow proper rotation (first in, first out) when building pallets.
  • Record run numbers on load sheets and invoices; initial all invoices.
  • Handle all products carefully; report any damage to a supervisor and do not ship damaged product.
  • Load trucks using load bars and straps; ensure trucks are locked if moved away from the dock.
  • Assist in other areas as required.
  • If assigned palletizing tasks:
    • Communicate with the middle person/operator on correct orders and quantities.
    • Ensure cases are correctly stamped, dated, and closed.
    • Stack cases straight and square on pallets, with stamps and stickers facing outward.
    • Move full pallets to their proper location and label correctly.
    • Number each pallet consecutively and mark the run number on the bottom case of each pallet.
    • Maintain a clean work area; check tape levels and taper operation frequently.
    • Place cardboard on the bottom of every pallet, and on the third row of half cases or fourth row of EBs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in a food processing plant is preferred.

Skills

  • General interest in learning warehousing procedures.
  • Ability to accurately follow and document paperwork.
  • Desire to learn and grow.
  • Capable of learning to operate power lift jacks.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, see, and hear.
  • Frequently stand and walk, often for long periods.
  • Lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Verbally communicate in a concise manner.
  • Hours may be long and irregular.
  • Work environment is a processing plant with frequent high noise levels, dust, dirt, and cooler temperatures (40°F).
